LIFE SeedNEB: Beautifying Cities Through Nature

The LIFE SeedNEB project is a European initiative that aims to demonstrate how integrating the New European Bauhaus and Nature-Based Solutions can transform urban environments, improving biodiversity and the quality of life for citizens.
It is an innovative project that combines sustainability, aesthetics, and social inclusion, promoting a new, more resilient, and people-centered model of urban development.
Context and Rationale
European cities face significant challenges related to climate change, biodiversity loss, and the degradation of urban spaces. Factors such as pollution, heat waves, and a lack of green spaces directly affect the well-being of the population.
In this context, LIFE SeedNEB emerges as a response that focuses on the renaturalization of urban spaces through innovative solutions, aligned with the principles of the New European Bauhaus: sustainability, beauty, and inclusion.
Project Objective
The overall objective of LIFE SeedNEB is to demonstrate the environmental, social, and economic benefits of applying nature-based solutions in urban environments, integrating them into city design and planning.
Specifically, the project aims to:
Promote urban biodiversity through interventions in buildings and public spaces.
Improve environmental quality by reducing air, noise, and heat pollution.
Increase resilience to extreme weather events such as heat waves and floods.
Promote citizen participation in neighborhood transformation.
Facilitate the replicability of solutions in other European cities.
Main Actions
The project is being implemented in three European municipalities that serve as urban laboratories:
Lorquí (Spain)
Potenza (Italy)
Dunaújváros (Hungary)
Among the main actions are:
Renaturalization of emblematic buildings, such as the Enrique Tierno Galván Cultural Center in Lorquí.
Implementation of green roofs and facades.
Transformation of public spaces through green infrastructure.
Creation of Bauhaus Citizen Schools to promote citizen participation and training.
Establishment of Biodiversity Offices to advise on sustainable urban solutions.
Expected Results
LIFE SeedNEB will generate significant impacts in the pilot urban environments and lay the groundwork for its replication in other European cities.
Among the main expected results are:
Restoration of at least 3 buildings using green solutions.
Renaturalization of public spaces in the three participating municipalities.
Application of nature-based solutions in private buildings.
Improvement of urban biodiversity and environmental conditions.
Development of co-creation processes with citizens.
Development of tools and guides to replicate the model in other territories.

Coordinating Entity and Partnership
