THE REGION IN EUROPE
In Spain, the political and administrative powers are shared between the State and the Autonomous Communities. Because of this, Autonomous Communities are required to participate in the functioning of the European Union together with the representatives of the Spanish State.
To facilitate participation when it comes to the EU's decision-making process, the Autonomous Community of Murcia, like other Autonomous Communities, has thus equipped itself with an in-situ support infrastructure; the Region of Murcia office in Brussels, operating under the direction of the Regional Government and the DG in charge at any given moment of the institutional relations with the European Union.
The regions implement European legislation, and also have a key role in informing and disseminating European information to citizens, society and interest groups in general. This task is carried out with the expert help of EU institutions, such as the Parliament and the Commission, through the membership of networks, such as the Europe Direct centres, or the implementation of specific programmes.
