EUROPEAN AGRICULTURE RURAL DEVELOPMENT FUND
This is the financial instrument for rural development policy. It aims to promote sustainable rural development as a complement to the existing market and income support policies implemented within the framework of the common agricultural policy, cohesion policy and the common fisheries policy. The Fund contributes to improving the competitiveness of the agricultural and forestry sectors, environment and management of rural areas, as well as the quality of life and diversification of activities in rural areas.
Region of Murcia
The Rural Development programme in the Murcia Region has a volume of 219.20 million Euros of EU funding. In addition, Spanish authorities contribute 128.8 million Euros to EU funding. Agriculture, livestock, forestry and fishery sectors play an important role in the regional economy, representing 5.4% of GAV and 10.5% of the region’s employment.
The Murcia Region Rural Development programme (RDP) has the following crosscutting objectives: innovation, environment and climate change.
Overall, the strategy described in the RDP is aimed at improving the competitiveness of the food industry, promoting and improving the maintenance and creation of employment in rural areas, especially for young people, improving the quality of life and the environment and ensuring equal opportunities in urban and rural areas.
