European Week of Regions and Cities 2025
The European Week of Regions and Cities was held in Brussels from October 13 to 15 under the theme “Shaping tomorrow, together.” Coinciding with the event, the 168th plenary session of the Committee of the Regions took place, with the participation of the President of the Region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras.

The meeting, the main European forum on Cohesion Policy, brought together workshops, debates, and networking activities around three key themes: cohesion and future growth, the right to remain in one's territory, and the role of cities as drivers of innovation and sustainability. The Region of Murcia organized a session on defense focused on dual-use innovation, support for SMEs, and industrial resilience. At this session, the Director-General for the European Union, Adrián Zittelli, presented the Caetra project, which promotes dual-use technologies through the Regional Development Agency (INFO). In addition, the Director General for Competitiveness and Tourism Quality, Eva Reverte, participated in a panel discussion on sustainable tourism linked to the European Slowdown project. She highlighted regional initiatives for more responsible tourism and the importance of European cooperation in adopting new sustainability methodologies.


European Week of Regions and Cities 2024
The Director General for the European Union, Adrián Zittelli Ferrari, participated in this plenary session of the Committee of the Regions held in Brussels, which, as every October, takes place within the framework of the European Week of Regions and Cities. During the plenary session, European regional and local representatives discussed the climate crisis and extreme weather events, such as floods, fires, and drought, and their impact on European regions. In this regard, the representative of the Region of Murcia emphasized territorial resilience and adaptation to climate change as a key priority for this new mandate of the European Commission and in the EU's programming policies for the 2028-2034 period, whose initial proposals are expected next year.

European Week of Regions and Cities 2023
Under the general theme "Prosperous Regions, a Stronger Europe," the various activities of this European event focused on the future of EU cohesion policy and issues such as the post-industrial transition, small urban centers, cross-border cooperation, local energy transition, social innovation, and talent retention. It was held from October 9 to 12.

Within this framework, the Region of Murcia participated in one of the nine official regional consortia, along with Southwest Friesland, the Netherlands, and the Central Denmark Region, with the seminar ‘Providing the right skills for a water-smart society’.

Furthermore, during the Plenary Session of the Committee of the Regions, the publication of the annual report was announced. This report outlines the key challenges facing European regions and cities, as well as solutions to guide EU policy decisions in areas such as climate change adaptation and mitigation, the energy crisis, the rural agenda, and food security.

The Plenary Session of the Committee of the Regions (October 9-12) supported an amendment from the Region of Murcia that identifies combating desertification as a priority challenge to be addressed in a future Mediterranean macro-region.

It will take place from October 11 to 14, 2021, in a digital format with the possibility of limited in-person participation.

The 18th edition of the European Week of Regions and Cities, organized by the European Commission, through the Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG Regio), and by the European Committee of the Regions, will be held in Brussels from October 12 to 15.
