The 24th edition of the 'My Town, Europe' drawing competition awards the best works of schoolchildren

The authors of the best entries submitted to the 24th edition of the drawing competition ‘My Town, Europe’ received their prizes yesterday at a ceremony presided over by the Minister of the Presidency, Spokesperson, Foreign Action, and Emergencies, Marcos Ortuño.
The competition aims to foster knowledge of the European Union among students and the importance of belonging to it. To this end, the competition seeks to help schoolchildren understand the role of the European Union, learn about its institutions and the territories that comprise it, as well as the impact that membership has on their towns and their daily lives.
The competition resulted in nearly 2,500 participating schoolchildren who, through their drawings, expressed their vision of Europe from their immediate reality, reflecting values such as unity in diversity, coexistence, the absence of borders, and peace.
Ortuño recalled that “72 years ago, on May 9th, Robert Schuman presented the proposal to build a united Europe, which is considered the seed of what is now the European Union, made up of 27 countries that joined together to make things better, easier, and safer for people, working together to help each other.”
This year, 25 primary and infant schools from Alcantarilla, Alguazas, Blanca, Cartagena (city center and Molinos Marfagones), Cehegín, Cieza, Fuente Álamo, Jumilla, Lorca (city center and Morata), Murcia (El Esparragal, Espinardo, Sangonera la Verde, and Torreagüera (Murcia)), and San Javier participated.
The awards ceremony, where prizes of educational materials were presented, took place yesterday as part of the program organized for Europe Day, which is celebrated next Saturday. The students received a diploma, a gift pack containing educational games, drawing/painting materials, and resources about the European Union.
In each category, first, second, and third prizes were awarded, as well as a special prize for students with special educational needs. The finalist drawings are featured in this year's "My Town, Europe" calendar.
