The Region is promoting young talent with the announcement of two training scholarships in European affairs in Murcia and Brussels
Two young people from the Region will have the opportunity to further their training in European affairs next year through scholarships offered by the Regional Ministry of the Presidency, Youth, Foreign Action, and Emergencies.
The Directorate General for the European Union is offering this opportunity to university graduates under 30 years of age. It consists of a full year of professional specialization, including a nine-month stay in Brussels and a grant of up to €40,950.
The program aims to boost the employment prospects of young people from the Region in multilateral institutions and in representing the interests of the Region of Murcia abroad.
The Regional Minister, Marcos Ortuño, emphasized that the young people who ultimately receive this scholarship “will receive eminently practical training and will have the opportunity to delve deeper into the workings of European institutions and better understand the challenges and opportunities facing Europe.”
“These will be a few months of interesting and valuable learning, as they will learn how to actively contribute to the decision-making process in an international context and how to participate in the EU from the Region of Murcia,” he added.
The internships last 12 months and are delivered in a blended learning format: the first three-month internship will take place at the headquarters of the Directorate-General for the European Union in the Region, while the remaining three three-month internships will be completed at the Region of Murcia's Office in Brussels.
The total budget for the program is a maximum of €40,950, with a limit of €20,475 per internship, co-financed with internal funds.
The gross monthly stipend will be €1,425 during the stay in Murcia and will increase to €1,800 during the stay in Brussels as a travel and accommodation allowance, ensuring that the applicants' financial situation is not a barrier to accessing this training.
The scholarships are aimed at attracting highly qualified candidates. Among other requirements, applicants must be nationals of a European Union member state, have resided continuously in the Region for at least one year, be under 30 years of age, and hold an official university degree (Bachelor's or equivalent). Certified proficiency in English (minimum level B2) and a second official EU language (minimum level B1) are also essential.
Merits, Interview, and Languages
The selection process will be structured in two phases. First, the evaluation of merits, which accounts for 80 percent of the total score, will assess double degrees, grade point averages in undergraduate, postgraduate, Master's, or doctoral programs specific to the European Union, as well as additional courses and prior participation in mobility programs such as Erasmus.
Furthermore, the personal interview will assess the candidate's maturity, motivation, and adaptability to the international environment. The final stage will consist of a 10-minute conversation in English with native language experts to validate their fluency.
The application period began on the 15th and will remain open until August 14th, as stated in the official announcement published in the BORM (Official Gazette of the Region of Murcia).
