The Directorate-General for the European Union announces the opening of the third call for proposals of the European program, endowed with 8.2 million euros and focused on projects that will transfer or adapt solutions that have proven successful

The Directorate-General for the European Union (DGEU) has announced the opening of the third call for proposals for the Interreg NEXT MED 2021-2027 program, which, with a budget of €8.2 million, aims to consolidate a smart, ecological, and inclusive tourism model in the Mediterranean basin.

This new funding opportunity represents a strategic chance for public administrations, universities, research centers, and non-profit organizations in the Region of Murcia. European funding will cover up to 92 percent of eligible costs, with a budget allocation of between €1 million and €1.3 million per project. The application period will remain open until October 29.

Unlike previous calls, Interreg NEXT MED prioritizes technical maturity and economic efficiency. This means that projects will not start from scratch but must build upon solutions that have already proven successful in previous initiatives of the Multi-Programme Mechanism for the Mediterranean (MMM).

Each application must incorporate at least one outcome already developed within the projects approved under the MMM (Murcia Tourism Management Plan), with the aim of optimizing public investment, accelerating the deployment of mature solutions, and reinforcing the value of shared knowledge among Mediterranean regions.

The proposals submitted must align with one of the program's four priority areas: development of smart tourism products and services; environmental sustainability and energy efficiency in the sector; creation of skilled jobs, professional training, and promotion of accessible and inclusive tourism; and shared strategies for destination management at a regional and transnational scale.

To participate, entities from Murcia must join consortia made up of a minimum of five organizations from at least three countries participating in the program. Each consortium must include a Mediterranean EU Member State and a partner country from the southern Mediterranean.

Institutional Support and Information Session

The Directorate General for the European Union will hold an information session in September to detail the key aspects of the call for proposals, the requirements for consortia, and the pathways to access the tools of the Mediterranean Multiprogramme Mechanism.

This department of the Regional Ministry of the Presidency, Youth, Foreign Action, and Emergencies will offer interested organizations specialized support, advice, and strategic guidance for defining their projects, with particular attention to compliance with the criteria established by the European Union.

Both organizations interested in accessing this technical service and those wishing to participate in the information session can contact the DGUE's European Aid Department through the website murciaregioneuropea.carm.es.

All documentation, regulatory frameworks, and the catalog of reference projects for the MMM are also available at interregnextmed.eu.
