The activities begin next Monday with the awards ceremony for the 'My Town, Europe' drawing competition and a meeting with the 'Sorda' team, which will lead into a screening of the film.

The Region of Murcia will commemorate Europe Day, celebrated next Saturday, May 9, with a series of cultural and institutional events aimed at deepening knowledge about Europe and its institutions.

The program begins on Monday at 6:00 p.m. with the awards ceremony for the 24th edition of the "My Town, Europe" competition, aimed at preschool and primary school students to raise awareness about Europe among young people. The winning drawings were used to create the 2026 calendar. The event, organized by Europe Direct Region of Murcia, will be held at the Regional Archives.

Later, at 7:30 p.m., the Regional Film Library will host a screening of "Sorda," the film directed by Eva Libertad, winner of the European Parliament's 2026 LUX Prize. The screening will include a talk with members of the film crew, followed by the film itself. Admission is free until capacity is reached.

The Regional eTwinning Days will bring together more than 200 teachers on Thursday to promote educational quality and internationalization through this European initiative, with a program of activities, visits, and presentations.

On Friday, the eve of Europe Day, the Regional Government and the City Council of Murcia will hold a joint institutional event with the raising of the European Union flag at the Glorieta and the reading of a manifesto by teachers and students from a local school.

Also on Friday, a European Youth Plenary will be held, with the participation of European Parliament Ambassador Schools. The event will take place at the García Alix Cultural Center in Murcia and will begin at 10:00 a.m. The participating schools are the ambassador schools CES Vega Media (Alguazas), IES El Carmen (Murcia), IES Luis Manzanares (Torre Pacheco), and Cooperativa de Enseñanza Samaniego (Alcantarilla), and the mentor schools IES Sanje (Alcantarilla) and Colegio Miralmonte (Cartagena).

The students will engage in direct dialogue with the Region's Members of the European Parliament on current European issues.

The activities will conclude with a special edition of the regional television program "El pinchazo," in which students from the ambassador schools will test their knowledge of the European Union. At the end of the broadcast, the representatives from the participating schools who will travel to Brussels to visit the European Parliament and other European institutions will be announced.
