The new call for applications for 'prepaid cards' will benefit more than 3,000 vulnerable families in the Region of Murcia
The Autonomous Community is strengthening its support for vulnerable families with a new call for applications for "prepaid cards," which provide food and basic material assistance to those most in need. This third call for applications for the program could benefit more than 3,000 vulnerable families.
This call has a budget of €5.2 million, 90 percent of which comes from ESF+ funds, and the remainder from regional funds. Interested parties can submit their application through the Autonomous Community's Electronic Office, using procedure 4416 for the ESF+ Basic Material Assistance Program.
The resolution, which establishes the conditions for submitting applications and was published in the Official Gazette of the Region of Murcia (BORM), sets a deadline of July 17. It also specifies how interested parties should apply to participate in this ESF+ Basic Material Assistance Program and how their applications should be referred to the Red Cross, the beneficiary of the grant for this call.
This program provides assistance through redeemable cards, using a standardized system designed to respect the dignity of beneficiaries and prevent their stigmatization. Products that can be purchased with these cards include food, hygiene items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, and diapers.
Furthermore, the program includes support measures aimed at the social and professional inclusion of beneficiaries. Families will follow a personalized plan tailored to their needs, designed by the Social Services department of each municipality. They will receive guidance on available resources and support in various areas related to healthy lifestyle habits and domestic skills training.
Families with at least one dependent child who live below the severe poverty line (i.e., whose income is less than 40 percent of the national median income) are eligible for this assistance.
To ensure access to the program for families in the most economically vulnerable situations, priority will be given to those with the lowest incomes, establishing a ranking system among those who meet the participation requirements. Participation in this program lasts 12 months, from September 2026 to August 2027.
