The Robles Vives park in Águilas reopens with awnings financed with €100,000 in European funds.

The children’s playground in Robles Vives Square, in Águilas, has reopened after being closed for nearly two months due to the installation of a canopy system designed to provide shade during the hottest months.
The project involved an investment of more than €100,000 and forms part of the Tourism Sustainability Plan, funded by European resilience funds, according to the Águilas City Council. The initiative falls within the climate adaptation measures included in this program.
The works consisted of installing sail-type canopies made of high-density polyethylene, anchored to steel structures designed to withstand strong wind gusts. The system covers several children’s play areas, increasing the amount of shaded space available.
Mayor Cristóbal Casado, who oversaw the project, stated that “with this action, the city council reaffirms its commitment to sustainability, adaptation to climate change, and the creation of more inclusive, comfortable, and accessible urban spaces.”
During the park’s closure, the city council also carried out additional works funded by municipal resources, including the renewal of safety flooring, reorganization of playground equipment, improvements to lighting, and repainting and replacement of signage.
