The regional government is putting digital innovation at the service of rural and marine areas with the 'TriRuralTech' project

Last week, the regional government presented the results of the ‘TriRuralTech’ project, an initiative promoted by the Integra Foundation that has enabled the development of new digital services for rural and marine areas using technologies such as digital twins, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), and advanced modeling. The goal is to put innovation at the service of businesses, entrepreneurs, and public administrations, fostering more efficient land management and strengthening the competitiveness of strategic sectors of the regional economy.
The Minister of Economy, Finance, Spokesperson, European Funds, and Digital Transformation, Marisa López Aragón, inaugurated the presentation of the project's results, which showcased the technological developments implemented within the framework of the state program Territorial Networks of Technological Specialization (Retech), funded by the European Union's Next Generation program.
During the meeting, the new functionalities incorporated into the Digital Twin of the Region of Murcia were presented. This platform allows for the simulation of scenarios and the anticipation of the impact that different decisions may have on the territory. Also presented were the hydrometeorological risk monitoring and management tools, which facilitate the prediction of events such as heavy rainfall or flooding and improve the response capacity of public administrations.
In addition, the Internet of Things (IoT) solutions for the creation of agricultural "Living Labs" were unveiled. These solutions allow for the real-time monitoring of variables such as soil moisture, environmental conditions, and irrigation needs to optimize agricultural production. Furthermore, advances in the modeling of the Mar Menor and its watershed were showcased, which help to better understand the behavior of the ecosystem and support decision-making for its conservation. All of these developments will enable the provision of new digital services to companies, public administrations, researchers, and entrepreneurs linked to the rural, agricultural, and marine sectors.
The Regional Minister emphasized that “digital transformation only makes sense when it translates into opportunities for our productive sector and solutions that improve land management, and ‘TriRuralTech’ demonstrates that innovation can become a useful tool for boosting the development of the rural and marine areas of the Region of Murcia.”
She also stressed that the Regional Government “is leveraging European funds to establish permanent technological capabilities, strengthen our innovation ecosystem, and support strategic sectors such as agri-food and marine.” Furthermore, she highlighted that “the Regional Government’s commitment is to ensure that digitalization reaches every corner of the Region and becomes an engine of growth and new opportunities.”
The project has benefited from the technical collaboration of IMIDA (Murcia Institute for Agricultural and Food Research and Development) and the participation of technology companies specializing in artificial intelligence, data analysis, software development, and geospatial technologies, consolidating a collaborative model between public administration, research centers, and the private sector to accelerate innovation applied to the region.
Today's session also included presentations of the experiences developed by participating companies and discussions on the opportunities offered by emerging technologies to improve the competitiveness, sustainability, and innovation capacity of rural and coastal areas.
With this initiative, the regional government "reaffirms its commitment to a meaningful digital transformation, aimed at generating knowledge, promoting technology transfer, and strengthening business competitiveness," added López Aragón.
