The regional government is making progress in fulfilling the European 'Promoter' project with the installation of the 44 Movibus chargers

The regional government is making progress on one of the key actions planned under the European ‘Promoter’ project with the installation of 44 charging points that will serve Movibus's new fleet of electric buses.
This action is one of the measures agreed upon at the meeting of the Interinstitutional Commission for Mobility and Sustainable Energy (CIMES), a technical and institutional coordination body established in February to promote the project's results in the Region of Murcia and strengthen collaboration between administrations on decarbonized transport and renewable energy.
The Director General of Mobility and Transport, José Antonio Verdú, emphasized yesterday during the commission meeting that “the Region is moving towards more sustainable mobility with actions like this. The charging points are an essential step to consolidate the electrification of public transport and offer a more efficient, modern, and environmentally friendly service.”
Last week, the regional government inaugurated the first charging points installed at the Molina de Segura bus station. The network will be completed with ten additional charging points in Alcantarilla and 26 in Cartagena, distributed between the La Asomada facilities and the bus station.
The project represents an investment of over €3.8 million, co-financed by the European Union's Next Generation funds, and is one of the key actions linked to the decarbonization of regional public transport.
Verdú pointed out that “the electrification of public transport is not just about adding new vehicles, but about equipping the system with all the necessary infrastructure to guarantee efficient operation. With this charging network, we are addressing that need and continuing to move towards a mobility model with fewer emissions and higher quality service for citizens.”
The Interinstitutional Commission on Sustainable Mobility and Energy also addressed the other lines of work included in this European project, among them mobility and energy policies, the electrification and decarbonization of public transport, the promotion of active and multimodal mobility, citizen participation, and the analysis of financial and regulatory instruments that facilitate the energy transition applied to transport.
The European project ‘Promoter’ aims to accelerate the implementation of innovative sustainable mobility and renewable energy solutions through cooperation between public administrations, entities, and social stakeholders. In the Region of Murcia, the regional government is participating in this initiative along with the Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia, promoting actions aimed at building a more sustainable and efficient public transport system adapted to the challenges of the energy transition.
