This figure is in addition to the 24 million euros they already received as an advance in October.

The regional government has begun paying the first installment of the remaining balance of direct aid from the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) for the current financial year, following the advance payment made last October.

In total, nearly 8,700 farmers and livestock breeders in the Region of Murcia will receive a total of €12,076,000, which will provide the sector with greater liquidity to cover the costs of their operations.

The Director General for the CAP, Ana García Anciones, highlighted that “the regional government continues to work to ensure that these funds reach the pockets of those who produce our food as soon as possible.”

García Anciones recalled that the advance payment period, which began on October 16, already involved the disbursement of €24,079,000. “It was essential to speed up all procedures as much as possible so that farmers and livestock breeders could have a financial boost from October that would allow them to continue with their activity, and that is exactly what we have done,” she emphasized.

The Director General for the CAP explained that, within this first payment of the remaining balance, around 8,000 farmers will receive nearly €9.8 million, corresponding to basic income support for sustainability, the complementary redistributive payment, aid associated with young farmers, and eco-schemes.

“These support lines help to promote sustainability, the modernization of farms, and the incorporation of young people into agriculture—three priorities for this government,” García Anciones noted.

Livestock sector

As for the livestock sector, she explained that more than 700 professionals will collectively receive more than €2.3 million, allocated to the sustainable production of cow’s milk, sheep and goat milk, as well as to sheep and goat meat producers operating under extensive and semi-extensive systems.

“We are aware of the difficulties faced by the livestock sector, and that is why we continue to strengthen all support mechanisms so they can carry out their activity with guarantees,” the Director General stated.

With this new financial injection, the total amount paid by the regional government since the start of CAP payments now exceeds €36 million, combining the advances paid in October and this first installment of the remaining balance.

García Anciones concluded by stressing that “the government of Fernando López Miras will continue to demand the resources that the agricultural sector of the Region of Murcia deserves, because it is essential for our economy, for rural development, and for ensuring quality food for society as a whole.”
