Biotechnology for Healthy Aging
Eligible Action Areas
Develop one of the following three areas:
An innovative, preventative, or therapeutic intervention, based on biotechnology or pharmaceuticals, that prevents, delays, or reverses the onset of a specific age-related disease.
Biomarker-based tools (digital, molecular, or physiological) for the responsible deployment of interventions, explicitly excluding the discovery of new biomarkers.
A novel approach methodology to robustly capture the aging state of the system and the systemic/integrative nature of aging (i.e., it must capture more than one molecular or cellular aspect of aging and more than one tissue type).
Precision nutrition, the development of novel aging clocks, and wellness applications are outside the scope of this Challenge.

Applications may be submitted by individual legal entities (universities, research organizations, SMEs, startups, or natural persons) or consortia.
Consortia of two entities must originate from two different Member States or Associated Countries.
Consortia of three or more entities must include at least one from a Member State and two from different Member States or Associated Countries. Large corporations and mid-cap companies are not permitted to participate in single-beneficiary projects. The inclusion of early-career researchers and gender balance in teams are encouraged.
€32 million for a maximum of 10 projects, depending on the area:
For line 1, no more than 5 projects will be selected.
For line 2, no more than 3 projects will be selected.
For line 3, no more than 2 projects will be selected. The EIC considers proposals of up to €4 million suitable, although larger amounts may be justified, as they cover 100% of eligible costs (lump sum). It is recommended that projects last 5 years.
